I'm Amar, a design driven product manager based in San Diego, California with a background in computer science and engineering. As an engineer, I thoroughly enjoyed writing up algorithms but what really intrigued me were the designs I implemented and how people were interacting with it. Soon, I began to understand the importance of a good user experience and started looking at anything and everything that I used with a different perspective.
Enthralled by design, I set out to design and build iOS apps that would help improve people’s lives. I worked as a designer as well as an iOS developer. I not only wrote code but also worked on ideation, design, prototyping, testing, marketing and support. Every day was a challenge and required me to put on a new hat. Needless to say, I really really enjoyed it. During this period, I spent my free time writing app reviews for Beautiful Pixels, a website that showcases some of the most beautiful digital user interfaces. I also spent time testing apps for developers from across the globe and suggesting usability improvements where appropriate.
Over the summer of 2015, I worked as a Product Manager at TUNE. Working as a PM at a startup gave me the unique opportunity to get hands-on experience in the early stages of innovating a new product. I worked with engineering and design to conceptualise new product features and see it through development.
As a student and independently, I’ve worked on projects during which I’ve had to innovate, prototype, organise information, write code and use large data sets to design products for specific audiences. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the entire product development lifecycle and believe that my experiences have helped me understand design and how it affects an overall product.
If I’m not busy on a project or at school, I can usually be found listening to Relay.fm podcasts or playing Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. I also enjoy cooking, eating good food, hiking, traveling and playing challenging games.
